The Fortress Model of Wooing

So a friend showed it to me and I wanted to share it with others without having to send the link... HILARIOUS

The Fortress Model of Wooing.
Every girl is a princess in a fortress. A guy’s job is to get into the fortress and get the girl.

Overview

Types of Guys/Techniques employed:

1. The Battering Ram - the traditional, brute method.

2. MilkMan - neutral friendly approach.

3. The Tutor/Violin Teacher - the backdoor approach.

4. The SpoonMan/Digger - digs at night with a spoon.

5. The Big Army Model - he comes well prepared for battle.

6. The Siege Guy - just wears them down.

7. The Passing By Army - doesn’t even notice there’s a fortress.

8. The Gardener - has sold all his weapons of war for a weedwacker. (Oh, brother)

9. The Holy Man - how celibacy is merely a front

10. The Silent Killer - the dude is praying from far away, so watch out!

Types

1. The Battering Ram.

The traditional, brute method.

Description: This guy meets the girl, and he goes back home, gets a big battering ram and just tries to bust down the castle door. This guy uses the BFS approach: Bigger Faster Stronger. Goal is to use maximum force, minimal planning, in the shortest time to break down the door.

Real Life:

Gives: Roses, Chocolate
Leaves: multiple IM’s, cell phone calls
He may: barge into your room when you’re studying, sing really loud at your surprise birthday party, hug your mom without being introduced.

Basically, this guy has no shame and has no real game plan. He just wants to pound the door down.

My Take: "No real game plan" means no game. Period. If a girl falls for this, I can't imagine what's left after he conquers the fortress.

2. MilkMan

Neutral friendly approach.

Description: The Milkman knocks on the castle door and asks if the princess wants milk. After a relationship is established, he provides a neutral non-intimidating service.

Real Life: He may give you a cell phone # of a friend when you ask. Walk you home if its dark. Tell you there is ketchup on your face if there is. Comment nice haircut if you ask.

This guy, wouldn’t mind getting into the castle but he doesn’t really care either. He visits like 10 castles a day, delivering milk, but he's not shady, he just knows lots of girls and talks with them like it's whatever, that’s just how it is.

My Take: This is the passively aggressive (or is it aggressively passive?) method in my opinion. Doing just a little bit here and there to get the most results. Fails to work in the case where you only want one girl (*gasp*).

3. The Tutor/Violin Teacher

The backdoor approach.

Description: Sounds like what it is, the dude is in the fortress on a regular basis, trying to teach the princess how to play the violin. This guy has premeditated intent but may seem neutral or resemble the proverbial gay guy friend. He enters the castle from the backdoor as he is not deemed an official or potential suitor.

Real Life: He may happen to be your workout buddy, your study buddy, your dining hall buddy, and your complain about finals buddy, visit the art museum buddy. Notice a trend. He aint your buddy. Guys have “My Buddy" and Girls have “Kid Brother” remember dat.

My Take: I object to the tutor/violin teacher analogy. Anyway, this has probably been every guy at some point in time. It's basically for guys when they're just starting to get in the game and have no real idea of how to get in the fortress except through friendship. Do note that there is a big difference between #2 and #3 (Milkman vs Tutor/Violin Teacher) - the milkman would like something to happen but could care less if nothing materializes, but the tutor/teacher approach is focused on tricking his way in. Then again, this method and similar methods are assuming you actually can become romantically involved after being friends first. Innnteresting.

4. The SpoonMan/Digger

Digs at night with a spoon.

Description: The digger digs at night. He is not seen. He has a spoon and digs a little bit every night, like in Shawshank Redemption. He is trying to dig an underground tunnel straight to the Princess Room: Her heart. He is a cripple by day, and a digger by night! For some reason, he assumes girly man postures and techniques during the day, but at night he employs masterful technique.

Real Life: With a roomful of 10 guys or more, there will always be a digger. He’s the guy who works at a girl late late late at night. Are you crying, o my gosh, he's got tissues. Are you complaining about how life is meaningless and boring. O my gosh, he like so understands. Are you mad at your boyfriend???? What do you know, so is he. He knows how to give pity and evoke pity.

babo4u's Take: The Digger is a master of psychological manipulation and well he knows how the female heart works. He is relegated to a life of digging as he cannot muster enuff respect from other guys to mount a full scale Day attack. This guy is extremely dangerous, however surprisingly enuff, only guys have the night vision to see him. Other girls not involved seem to be blind or unawares to what is happening. One day he’s a cripple lying outside the city wall, the next day hes got the princess!

5. The Big Army Model

He comes well prepared for battle.

Description: The guy comes with a big army to ask the princess to graciously surrender and let him in. He may be the general, the captain, the colonel, whatever. He has enough support from many men to convince the princess to surrender. He does not come with flaming torches but rather with nice regal banners/flags/even some gifts of goodwill.

Real Life: This guy is a guys guy. Decently smart, decently mature, decently everything. He hangs out with his buddies and you know hes interested. Hes probably athletic can read a book or two and loves his mom. Main thing is, he has the support of other guys.

babo4u's Take: This guy is doing things the legit way. But hey if the girl says no, its time to pitch a tent and become the Siege Guy.

6. The Siege Guy

The guy who works hard to get the girl and is willing to wait it out.

Description: He’s got catapults, artillery, archers. horsemen, infantry and most importantly, patience. Basically he’s got a plan. And he’s gonna be here a while.

Real Life: We all know this guy. In fact, 75% of all guys are at a Siege right now. The siege guy is with his buddies who are there for the long haul if need be. Generally this guy spends 2-4 years trying to get the girl. He will work slow, methodical but purposefully. Hey, the princess knows what he wants, knows that’s hes serious, but well she’s gonna make him earn it!

My Take: This is just a sad way of going about things. 2-4 years?? Something about the Siege guy makes me question his intelligence..

7. The Passing By Army

Playing “hard to get” or “I don’t care.”

Description: Has a big army of guys and walks right by the fortress... yea that’s right. Walks right by. The princess peers out the fortress and says to herself “where is he going? Hmm he seems interesting... Wait, he’s going to another fortress, this cant be right... I should go bring him back!

Real life: Plays hard to get or he hits on your neighbor or pretends not to care or even flirts with your friends. Simple enuff to explain.

babo4u's Take: Sounds like a move from the dark side but sometimes, its legit, so says James Dobson! This technique is timeless and effective. Regrettably or not it will never go away! I’m personally not advocating this is as a primary technique. Its kinda like a sac fly or bunting. Sometimes you just gotta do it. Who knows.

8. The Gardener

Has sold all his weapons of war and is willing to just “love a girl.”

Description: After many years of siege and other techniques, he is tired and tells his army to go home. He sells his weapons for seeds to plant a vegetable garden next to the castle. He now grows vegetables and sends them over the princess. He is no longer purposefully on offense but hoping that the girl will change his mind seeing his “long term commitment” to her fortress region. He soon learns to love eating vegetables.

Real Life: This is what happens when you become friends with a girl you put the mack on. This is the potentially the most undesirable state to be in. Its like a 3rd string QB who backs up Brett Favre. The guy will have polite 5 minute convos but never really ever talk to the girl again. That’s that.

babo4u's Take: It happens to most guys. Don’t be fooled, she ain’t gonna come around. “Faint hearts never won fair lady.”All things equal, even if you did have the goods, the girl don’t wanna be won over by a gardener. She wants a warrior. Just shake it off and try to go to war again.

9. The Holy Man.

This guy wasn’t even thinking about girls, it just happened.

Description: He is far away from the fortress and he doesn’t even know theres one around or care to know. But God or some mysterious force will just drop him from the sky right into the fortress one day.

Real Life: This dude is just loving the Lord or something and God will plop a woman into his life. Believe it or not, there are some dudes out there who ain’t thinking about girls most of the time. And for some mysterious reason, the woman is always super fine.

My Take: I like this because you don't waste time in actual pursuit, and you leave things up to a greater power. Been said to be a cop-out by some of my friends, and it may well be. But this method minimalizes wasted time, money, and emotion. Sounds good to me.

10. The Silent Killer.

The dude is praying from far away, so watch out!

Description: This guy is looking through the binoculars from far away and just praying up a storm.

Real Life: This guy knows you and is just praying up a storm. In Christian circles, you know the story, dude meets a girl and prays 3 years, and POW! matrimony. Ladies, watch out, he’s yah worst nightmare, he calls on Krishna, Buddha, Jesus, Ben Franklin, whoever will hear.

My Take: I don't actually know guys who just pray until they're unconscious to get the girl, but I have heard some pretty remarkable stories. Not for the weak-of-heart and definitely not for the impatient, but I guess I can't really hate on a guy who wants to make sure with the almighty if this girl is right or not. Then again, perhaps too passive an approach? Why not actually try getting to know the girl (and perhaps moving into another method of attack).

babo4u says: "Ladies, you can’t watch out, cuz sometimes, God’s on his side, sorry."

Sooo NBC has a new show that it's stolen from BBC. Not that I'm complaining because I do not have a subscription to BBC One and I am REALLY interested in this show. Now that NBC has stolen it, I will be watching it on June 21st. No one try to talk with me at 8PM on Sundays unless you want to hear me talk about it.

I'm basing this on the commercials. If I'm not patient I might steal from BBC.
The show is set in Camelot with Young Merlin being raised next to Young Arthur. And you see their relationship interacting. I'm sure it looks off from the commonly told story, but its more "accurate" than Sword in the Stone. So isn't that an improvement? Either way its a BBC show, do you not remember Robin Hood?

So yeah I'm excited! There are better summer shows than during the season at this point! YES YES YES! Me very happy now.

HOT British characters: http://www.nbc.com/merlin/photos/gallery#item=72904

Does BMI Differ with Race?

So I was looking into the height and weight of some Asian (Oriental) stars and singers and such.

I could not help notice that a majority of these girls are around 5 feet and not even over 100 lbs. Now I am not a health fanatic by any sense. As can be observed by the amount of food I've been munching on. However, just a quick calculation and that puts most people's BMI to be "underweight." Something that we, here in the US, are told to avoid. Heck these girls are not just a little under the BMI, they are generally way under. So... here's my question.

Does the BMI ranges differ for races or are asian stars just setting very unhealthy goals for girls? American stars can look amazing on screen and still stay at a relatively healthy BMI. Don't get me wrong, they are still mostly under 130 depending on height. However they are over 100 lbs. So why does asian countries accept the weight of their stars so easily when the US tabloids are filled with scandles of being TOO skinny.

Do these parents and family of the stars not care or do they not get educated on BMI? What makes it acceptable in Asian countries and such a huge deal here in the US?

After my rant about Zhang ZiYi being casted as Mulan I had put that movie to the back of my mind. Afterall, I was not planning to go see it. So imagine my surprise while browsing online at the ageless Chinese actresses with KB that I saw one of my favorite Chinese actresses is cast as Mulan. Apparently others might not have been so happy with the casting of Zhang ZiYi and now Zhao Wei is casted! People who knew me and my Chinese tv show obsession in high school would know she was in "Huan Zhu Ge Ge" (Return of Pearl Princess or something like that).

So... maybe I shall consider seeing it. Though Zhao Wei is rather feminine in appearance so how "boyish" can she get? Doesn't look too promising in pictures.

Lauriol Plaza in Dupont Circle, Washington, DC

Lauriol Plaza is one of the larger restaurants I've observed in the Dupont area. It consist of half a block on 18th NW street and three stories. We were seated upstairs on the third floor which was surprisingly warm considering the lack of actual walls on three sides. This was probably due to the heaters hanging from the ceiling. Overall the atmosphere was warm and comfortable. We were mostly surrounded by family, big and small. All of which consisted of chatter during the Sunday Brunch, but surprisingly it never got so loud you had difficulty hearing the person next to you. The tables were spaced out reasonably to prevent that, I believe.

The food itself was fabulous. We ordered just about everything off the breakfast menu and there were no complaints. The serving size was generous as most of us took some part of their breakfast home. The menu price ranged from $8 to $17 without drinks. However most of the menu consisted of seafood choices, so it is much cheaper than we had expected. We ordered a mimosa for about $4, same for the sangria. When combined the food would still be relatively cheaper than many alternatives in Dupont.

I think this is definitely one location everyone should try out. The location is large enough to host parties of any size. Again most Dupont areas do not take parties larger than 12, Afternote cafe won't take over 6. We were a party of 14 and showed up without reservation and were seated immediately. Abeit we arrived at 11:30 AM.

Shrimp and Scallops with Tomatoes

Shrimp and Crab Quesadilla

Chilaquiles

I just want to thank McDonald and Chipotle. A new Chipotle is opening up next to my workplace, which has had me SO excited for two months now. I even tried to find out where I can apply to work there. After all I do have an unhealthy appreciation for Chipotle.

So finally the sign was put up and they are opening tomorrow, Friday. I was all prepared to go and fight the crowd to just get my delicious Burrito Bowl. [It IS that yummy]

Then the fabulous Boss Lady came over and handed me a private invitation to Chipotle for today. Free food AND drink. So that's where my fabulous lunch came from, free Chipotle burrito, chips and drink. Now I'm so full and content. Even the idea that I might be losing the 4 pounds I lost in the past two weeks does not discourage me. I just had Chipotle!

<3

A sign my mind is going?

So yesterday night was just a baaaad night. I do not know what is happening but I already find myself getting more and more forgetful. I'm only 22, what is going on! Maybe it is the lack of vitamins.

The story is simple... I had taken my wallet out of my purse to call Bally's to sort out my membership. Its to expire soon and I did not want to be on Global Fit any longer. [Who knows when they might collapse.] I agreed to meet Jason to sign the contract after getting a fabulous deal. [That will just make this month's credit card $$ look horrid.] I remind myself that I should not leave my wallet here since I do need it and clean up and leave.

On the way to the gym I realized that I have an overdue book and if my past experience with Baltimore Public Libraries are a sign, they are not lenient toward anything they can give you a fee for. So I go back to my apartment first to get the book, plus drop off my extra bags. I usually carry two to work, my purse and a bag containing bigger items I could not fit into my purse (lunch and what not).

Feeling rather proud of myself for planning to accomplish so much I head off to the gym parking. Since the gym and the library is only 3 blocks apart, I could just park there and its free, once I have my ticket validated. Instead of walking into my meeting with Pride & Prejudice I decided to go to the library first. Once I dropped off the book, which was after walking down a semi-shady set of stairs, I start heading back up to the gym. Along the way is a Subway and I do need lunch so I pick up a sandwich there (5, 5 dollar, 5 dollar foot long!). That's when I notice that my wallet was gone. It was not in my purse and I had already ordered my 5 dollar foot long. Apologizing to the person behind the counter (is there a name for them?) I rush out to my car. Only to realize I need to validate my ticket or it'll be a $5 charge. So I rush into my gym and explain rather quickly and probably totally incomprehensibly to the personal trainer I need my ticket validated but had not ID to prove I was a member. Thankfully he was busy talking to someone else and just stamped it.

So I drive back to work since I last recollected seeing my wallet there. Though I TOLD myself not to forget it, I also did not see why I'd put it in my other bag. Especially since it would make more sense to put it in my purse. I arrive and no car was left in the parking lot. This might be an appropriate time to add I had left work at about 7 PM. So I rush into work and get to my desk to find... no wallet. Cursing myself for being a baka, I rush out and drive back to the apartment. Once there, I find the perfect parking spot, sadly it'll be gone by the time I come back. Thankfully my wallet was in my bag and I merely had to retrieve it. Once I procured my wallet I headed back to get my gym, this time I parked in a metered parking between Subway and Bally's.

After that it was relatively smooth sailing, I got my membership renewed and my sandwich paid off. Decided to have half for dinner instead of spreading it out to two lunches. After all it was 8:40 by then and I was not in the mood to cook. The only bump in my plan was stupid college basketball had replaced the regular programs on CW, which meant the show I had semi-rushed to see was not on. I suppose that's a good thing rather than bad. Either way I am sure my mind is going now. So you can be sure I'll be popping those vitamin pills a little more religiously.

<3

So the new year is finally here so I should try to fulfill my new year resolution. Of course this is a should and there are no guarantees.

1) Fitness... though I have no issue with my physical appearance. I personally know my fitness level and it should be improved! So measurable would be weight loss and being able to run at least 1 mile. (3 miles on the treadmill)

2) GMAT... if I did not put this on here my parents would lecture me to death so I suppose I should take my GMAT

3) Cooking... If I plan to save money for future and in this economy then I definitely need to cook more. So I will have to bother my fabulous friends who know how to cook. I have bought a new recipe book even

4) Read... Gotta catch up with K.B. on her reading list. Wait for me K.B.

5) Socialize... Not that I am an I because I'm definitely an E. However, time does call for not being lazy. Work Hard. Play Hard.

Surprise, surprise. I am just now seeing "It's A Wonderful Life" for the first time.
I did not realize how long the movie was until I am watching it. James Stewart is definitely talented. For a man to balance awkwardness with being suave seems impossible. However, that's definitely how I feel watching him.

The story definitely has its up and down. Though it is a nice way to spend time waiting for midnight. Cannot wait to open presents, even though I suspect I can guess what are under the tree.

I think I am already falling asleep. Yes the small things are the ones that give me pleasure. Of course I choose one of the cutest themes possible, candy. And I have to say I am LOVING IT!
So I dash off to share the news with my friends and none of them seem to have the setting to choose a theme. Now am I being delusional or is someone else at least getting this function? If it is just me then THANK YOU GOOGLE! I love it!

Bond... just another action flick now

After eagerly waiting in line to see the new 007, I found myself even more disappointed than I was by the last one.

This disappointed is in no way due to the acting skills of the lead, Daniel Craig. As before, he delivered a good performance, showing a different dimension to Bond. This time he was dealing with the emotional baggage from the betrayal of his last girl (Vesper). However, while adding dimension to Bond, I felt as if the old one had just disappeared. Though there were some charm, Daniel could not deliver what Pierce Brosnan did in his film, a convincing womanizer. Instead it was necessary for M to out right state that the women in Bond's life would do anything for him. I still am at a loss as to why Field would sleep with him. I mean its impressive he was able to twist the cover to allow them to stay at a nicer hotel, but not enough to jump into bed with. Instead Daniel focused on the strength of Bond, yes brute strength.

The action in this film was absolutely fabulous! I have to say that the fight scene and special effects left you a little breathless. Or maybe I'm just easily impressed, which I will admit I can be. However, in action and explosions this movie did deliver the good. While the previous Bonds did not dirty their hand as much, Daniel definitely spent more time fighting than just shooting the damn bad guys. Speaking of bad guy, Dominic Greene was definitely missing something the others had. He had no threat to himself. Once Bond actually got to the man, it was not difficult to apparently get him to squeal. Maybe it is because it is still early in Bond's life and his opponents are not quite as impressive.

However, the biggest disappointment to the movie was the lack of gadgets and cars. At least in the beginning Bond had the Aston Martin, which was gorgeous until he ruined it. Though it was still amazingly gorgeous. *swoon at the beauty* Then he drove around in average American cars. I wonder how much American car companies had to pay for that placement. He drove around in Range Rovers and other Ford owned brands. Where have the BMW's gone? Of course since his cars are not equipped with all sorts of special gadgets, it only makes sense that it would be American made. Now onto the special gadgets. Wait... what special gadgets? There were none! He had guns and his fists. Not even an explosive toothpaste!

Now I am not saying that I did not enjoy the movie. It was done in a grand style and was one of the better action movies I've seen this year. However, I was not going to see an action movie. I was going to see a Bond movie and I felt cheated of that.

So I recently heard rumors that Zhang Ziyi could be playing Mulan in an upcoming movie with that title. The first thought through my head was, why would a guy be touching Mulan's breasts? I am quite disappointed that one of the few Chinese heroine who makes it into the Western Culture will be depicted by an actress who has yet to do a movie without some man touching her privates. I understand that sex sells, but does she have to do that? I mean have a bit more self respect! Especially considering Eastern, including Chinese, culture generally demand for a more modest behavior.

Either way, I admit that Zhang Ziyi is one of the few Chinese actresses who has made it big in Hollywood. (In her case, it is the fact that her face and boobs are easily recognized.) However, there are 1 Billion people in China and plenty of talented actresses (for ones making it in the U.S., please check out the newly released "Forbidden Kingdom"). So why do you have to pick this one? When I ask any of my aquaintance about her, few can even pronounce her name or recognize her once her name is stated. (This has little to do with the difficulty of pronouncing her name, because most of them can sprout Japanese and Korean names with little problems.) The point of the matter is that Zhang Ziyi does not have the recognition I think directors believe she has. Yes, people will see many of her movies. However, I do not think it is her drawing them to these movies, but rather it is another Chinese action movie with crazy choreography. If you put another female in the role, I doubt people will recognize. (For an actress that does attract people by name, see Reese Witherspoon or Julia Roberts or Gong Li.)

So why out of the .5 Billion (basic half) Chinese did they have to pick one that is slutty? I just feel a slutty Mulan will be weird. Maybe that's the angle, because I am definitely curious to see how they make Mulan Slutty.

Reporting ALIVE from the Real World.

This world contains many things that I had never seen before. People are willing to go to the gym! So I am trying that out and it is quite exhilarating. I never thought I would enjoy going to the gym every day, but Sunday. [It is the day of rest after all and I am feeling quite lazy on that day.] However I have been going to gym every day for an hour. It is quite nice and I feel myself having more energy to do more. And a lot less stressed. So I'm pushing the rest of my family to do the same. *PUSH* Then I go out and enjoy the privilege of Melly's company for another hour or two. [Her new haircut is absolutely gorgeous! I so need one too.] If she does not have time for me, or I have time for her. I generally do my chores. I feel like such an accomplished young lady. *pats self on back*

The only good part is I do not have to always cook for myself. It is kind of nice being able to live at home. Though parents are making me cook as well... we are doing shifts. I never thought I'd say this, but... I am kind of glad to be learning to cook. [Now that will never be repeated... much] The question is what to do about future living situations. I do not feel safe living in Laurel, but I am not willing to keep putting all these miles on my car.

So.... not much else to report in this world. It is generally a world that makes me appreciate school. How I wish to be back in school. Miss it!
